In English, we use the ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics programme to support the teaching of early reading and spelling. We use multi-sensory approaches to the teaching of phonics to support the children develop these essential life skills.
To support children reading, we use the Oxford Reading Tree scheme and the Oxford Project X scheme. We also have two well-stocked libraries that contain recently published titles from a variety of different publishers. The school benefits from a yearly subscription to ‘First News’.
We teach writing skills through English but ensure that children transfer their skills across all curriculum areas as a tool to record.
Below are the Key Learning documents that show the skills that children will learn in both reading and writing. They detail what the children should be able to do by the end of each year.
